Director of Communications

Jonathan Rabinovitz

After a five-year hiatus from Stanford, Jonathan joined Digital Education as communications director. He brings 15 years of campus experience including stints as editor of the School of Law alumni magazine, managing editor in the School of Medicine’s communications office, director of media relations for University Communications, and chief communications officer for the Graduate School of Education. Prior to returning to Stanford he was senior media relations consultant for Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute in Seattle, where he helped to promote COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials. Jonathan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Harvard and then earned a master’s degree in journalism from University of California, Berkeley. He worked for a decade at the New York Times with six years as a reporter on the metropolitan desk. He has also been a reporter and editor at the San Jose Mercury News, Industry Standard magazine, Mother Jones, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as well as writing freelance articles for the San Francisco Chronicle, Stanford magazine, and Stanford Medicine magazine, among others. He lives with his wife Katie, a videographer and documentary filmmaker, on Bainbridge Island, across from Seattle. He has an adult son and daughter as well as two adult step-sons. He enjoys swimming year-round in Puget Sound, reading novels and trying to figure out what to do with all the apples and pears that grow in the back yard.
